Recent Buy --- OHI

Today I added to my OHI position.

  • OHI:  50 shares @ $31.53 --- Yield  7.99%

Total capital invested is $1583.43 and will add $126.00 to my yearly dividends. The yield is pretty high right now and hopefully dividend will be safe. I don't want to get too heavy into REITs, but the bargains are scarce right now. If oil prices drop back down again I'll pick up a few shares of BP and Shell.

Forward dividends are $9600.00.

  1. Like you, I plan to keep my REITs a small portion of my overall portfolio. Of all the REITs I like health the best long term. I don't have OHI but hold others. Nice yield play.

    1. DivHut,

After the HCP dividend cut, I'm a bit concerned about REITs in general. Hopefully all is good and I'll keep the positions small.

  2. Dividend is safe for awhile but even if it struggles for a couple of years it will right itself. I've been looking but no cash yet to get anything done. But a non dividend sale will be in the future if OHI stays relatively around this price.

    1. D&h,

I think you're right about the dividend. I hope you get the opportunity to buy shares soon if the price is right!

  3. i have a question that you mentioned in an earlier post once you get to a full position which you said is 10k do you stop dripping shares or do you still continue to drip but just dont add to the position anymore

    1. Alex Gregory,

I continue dripping until I decide to start living off the dividends. The only shares I don't drip are RDS-b. This is because they pay in RDS-a shares and it's a pain having a super small position on the books and is a bit confusing.

  4. MDP -

Similar to what DH said - love the healthcare space, have small positions in a few from years ago, dividends have been solid thus far, small increases, but obviously - better yields. Congrats on the purchase and keep the eyes peeled on a correction/market drop.

    1. Lanny,

Been waiting for the big dip for 7 years. The one in early 2016 was nice. I'll take another one of those!!

  5. MDP,

Big fan of OHI (and I have HCN). Long term, I only see them continuing to crush it.
